tHE MAKING OF THE CROWN S6
Mini Documentary Series
“Behind the scenes” featurettes that you used to watch on DVDs were the thing that first made me imagine a career in filmmaking. They’re windows into worlds conjured from plywood and sweat, and I often inhaled the stories of the making-ofs faster than the actual film.
So when Netflix approached me to direct the official behind-the-scenes of Season 6 of The Crown, I was determined to celebrate and demystify all the hard work that goes into our industry. We filmed featurettes on: Diana's Fashion; How Jonathan Pryce Became Prince Philip; the Tiny Prop Details audiences may have missed; The Secret To Nailing A Royal Accent; How Wigs Transform The Crown Cast Into Royals; and a masterclass from the movement coach to Learn To Move Like A Royal
Each featurette also needed to be clippable for vertical social formats, so we framed everything to work in both 16:9 and 9:16. The whole series pulled over 68 million views, with audiences fascinated by the level of craft behind one of Netflix’s biggest shows.
